NPC:/fact I'd heard the Freebloods cut them off when they join, but I almost didn't believe it. Gods, the pain it must cause to do something like that to yourself...

NPC:/dialogue As gruesome as it seems, this brand is a message. The Freebloods always deliver one to the serfs belonging to their targets, to warn of an attack. It signals it's time to hide, plan an escape, or join the rebellion.

NPC:/conclude But it would be suicide to attack the Painted Fields now. The Consul's men are on full alert, and they've doubled the guards. Rebels and serfs alike would be slaughtered. We must warn the Freebloods to withhold their assault.
