Introduction
Most of the fishing system is the same as for legacy. The most notable difference is the fact that the gold yield from the fish scales with your proficiency. The higher your skill, the more gold you will get from your fish. Buffing up will make a difference as well.
Other than that, there is a custom fishing clipper and there are event quests available twice a week.
As on legacy, a higher prof will let you do more damage to fish. Also, tuna are still worth the least of the regular seawater fish, while marlins are worth the most. The special sunfish exists, of course, but as it’s rare just turn that into a fancy trophy if you manage to get your hands on one.
Get a tidal bungalow in a location of your choice to easily hand in seawater fish at your personal fish stand. There is also a public tidal in the west aqua housing in Diamond Shores, in the far upper left corner of the area.

Fishing gear
Fishing rods
Basic rod: achievement

To get your first fishing rod, all you need to do is acquire a rowboat. In the screenshot below you can see the corresponding achievement that yields the rod.
You can either craft a boat yourself with ten lumber once you hit lv52, or you can list it on the craft request board to have someone help you when you’re still lower level.
Keep in mind, you’re going to need two fishing rods in the long run. The flexible and the sturdy are both required to craft the ultimate fishing rod.

To activate any of the rods for sportfishing, apply one of these lures:

This is required for both freshwater and seawater.

Other equipment

Dawnsdrop boots are a must have, not just because the extra prof will give you a gold boost on your fish, but also because it will allow you to use a higher level rod faster.
These three fish on the right side are required to upgrade the boots, and they can normally be found on the auction house, or you can fish them in the zones shown in this table:

The other items required are handicraft yarn and moonlight archeum crystals.

Next up are the merchant’s costumes.
The basic one is nice to wear while fishing, as not only does it increase damage somewhat, it’ll also increase the gold of your fish as it is dependent on both your prof at the time of catching, and at the time of delivery.
Use the fishing costume while you’re sailing your boat to decrease the cooldown on your propellant skill. Do remember to swap costumes when you fish or deliver, though!

Miscellaneous gear

For a very minimal proficiency boost, you can trade in Fisher King Coins for gear pieces. It will slightly increase the worth of your fish, but you’ll wear even less armor if you’re attacked.

Another good thing to know is that if you fish alone you can utilise auto-loot to pick up any fish within the 40m loot radius.

Do not use this if you’re in a party or raid as it will pick up everyone’s fish, not just yours.

Fishing titles
Proficiency titles
The first two titles are helpful to increase damage to and gold from your fish, while the third is required to be able to fish in Sunspeck Sea. More on that later.

Wonderland titles

If you find it’s too slow to get 50k fishing proficiency, it takes 2 months to get these three titles:

These titles are achievement rewards in Wonderland:

Forum event title
Now and then there’s a forum event to show off the largest fish you caught during the time the event is live, and one of the rewards is a fancy title, shown below.

Mirage isle fishing title

Trade in some Fisher King Coins from the weekly Mirage Isle fishing event to acquire this title with a small boost.

Generally, you acquire the aforementioned titles faster than this one.

Fishing boats
On ArcheRage there are the four usual fishing boats, and one custom designed Fishing Clipper. Below is an overview of their names and sources.
Only the fish-find longliner needs to be placed at a drydock to be built, the others are instantly usable as soon as you acquire them. All boats can hold 5 medium/small fish, and the regular fishing boats have 2 hooks for gargantuans.
All the regular fishing boats can have the components listed in the table below. Choose one rudder and one propellant, as only one of each can be equipped at a time.

The fishing clipper can have the same components as the harpoon and adventurer’s clippers:

  • Caernord Sea Serpent Propellant
  • Caernord Zephyr Triangular Rig
  • Caernord Zephyr Rudder
  • Shroudlight
  • Collection Breather

Fishing spots
AFK fishing

There’s two types of auto fishing, for which you just need your fishing rod, labor, and enough bait to keep fishing:

  1. Bait worm fishing, which can be done anywhere and does not require any proficiency.
  2. Big belly fishing, which can only be done in Sunspeck Sea and requires famed fishing.

Freshwater fishing
Look for the fishing stand icon on your map to find the exact locations of these areas. There will always be at least one spot available somewhere, you’ll see flying seagulls if it’s up. Activate your rod with the aforementioned fishing lure and use chum to activate the spot.

  • Karkasse Ridgelands

Seawater fishing
Fishing out in the oceans is the risky option but it’s well worth it, especially with high proficiency. You will need your fish-finder to find active spots easily, though it is also possible to just sail around and spot the flying seagulls.

Ocean fishing areas
  • Arcadian Sea
  • Castaway Strait
  • Halcyona Gulf
  • Stormraw Sound

Once you find a spot, use a chum bucket asap, as the experience is that they despawn rather fast after finding them.
(!!!) These spots last 45 minutes or until the 20th fish dies. At a higher proficiency it is possible to empty a spot in under 15-20 minutes when the fish stand is close. This is why people generally do not fish in groups unless it’s with their guild, family, or friends.
If you see someone fishing already, it’s a kind courtesy to ask if they will allow you to join or not…
Main tip: When looking for a spot, try to position your fishing boat south or north from the fish stand, as boats sail faster in that direction. That way if you do need to leave in a hurry, your boat won’t be slowed down by having to go west or east.

Useful items

Find a general merchant to buy ice shovels for ice fishing in Miroir Tundra.
Buy a mystic lotus pond (furniture) in Mirage Isle to be able to choose a buff that increases damage dealt to sport fish. Enter the big building behind you as you load in, and go up the stairs.
If these ponds are on a public plot, or otherwise shared within your family or guild, anyone with access can also use it to choose one of the buffs.

Proficiency buffs

The three following buffs all stack with each other.
The double mermaid tub can either be grinded with Fisher King Coins from the weekly fishing event in Mirage Isle, or it can be found on the marketplace now and then. Use a Dahuta’s Bubble to have a 10k boost to your fishing prof for an hour.
Other buffs for fishing are these two scrolls. They both drop from RNG boxes, but the diligent worker’s scroll can also be found in Wonderland, as a drop from the Chests of Wonder.

As a way to level your prof a tad faster, you can use fishing ponds. These, sadly, mainly drop from RNG boxes. Some events might drop bound versions.

Title achievements

Fishing rod achievement

As mentioned before, there’s an achievement to acquire a special design to finish upgrading the fishing rods by combining the two types.

To finish these achievements, it’s basically required to do a certain amount of fishing.

Auto fish achievement

First off, you do not need to fish all the 1400 fish for these auto fish achievements.
Let’s say you acquire 10% of each: 100 basic grade, 30 grand grade, and 10 rare grade. You can then mail these to yourself 9x for the other 90% progression.
Or better yet, collect the total amount as a guild or family, and mail it around to whoever is in need of finishing the achievements. For the other parts of this achievement set, the trick is to not do it alone. Every fish caught in a party or raid will count towards the achievement of whoever is in that group.

Freshwater achievements

Main tip: these spots have no fish limit, so keep fishing for those 45min and neglect to pick the fish up for speed’s sake as killing the fish counts, not the looting.

You could opt to have someone else loot the fish for you. Set loot to FFA for this.

Seawater achievements

Sadly a fishing spot in the ocean will scatter and disappear once the 20th fish has been killed.
Main tip: if you fish in a group, count to when the 19th fish dies, then let everyone in the group hook a new fish before killing the 20th. All the fish still on your hooks can be caught and will count for the achievements.

Of course for these fish it’s more worth to hand them in, unlike the freshwater fish. And as you fish, you will raise your prof to be able to reach the requirements to use higher level fishing rods. As you level up your prof you should already get a steady progression for your seawater fishing achievements.

Trophy achievements

These are for the completionists among us. Collect a trophy of each fish of each size to collect a few gilda as a reward.

Side notes:
  • For pufferfish, only the gargantuan version has a trophy, but both the regular and the pink version do not have an achievement.
  • The other fish that does not seem to have an achievement related to its trophy is the Sunfish.

Custom: event quests
Every Tuesday and Saturday you can pick up custom quests that will reward you for handing in a total of 18 fish.

!!! only seawater fish will count for these quests !!!
The NPC that offers these quests can be found in the central plazas of Austera and Marianople on the continents, and in Diamond Shores close to the Mistsong Summit dungeon entrance.

The rewards can be a big help to newer players and a nice bonus for older players. It’s definitely recommended to pick them up if you go out to fish anyway.

Miscellaneous info
  • Ahnimar fish do not count towards the ultimate rod achievements.
  • Stealing fish does not count towards the ultimate rod achievements.
  • Every Saturday, there is a fishing event in Mirage Isle. Exchange tokens for fishing items.
You can fish for one hour, anywhere between 12pm and 12am server time.

  • The worth of kraken tentacles is also affected by your fishing proficiency.
  • Regular fishing related events are the ice-fishing event and the snowfang isle event.
  • Cooking is the related proficiency for crafting chum buckets and ground fish chum.
If you aim to fish a lot and craft a lot of these, make sure to raise this prof as well.
  • While fishing for pink pufferfish in Ahnimar, you can acquire [McGaru’s Multi-tool] to use on the hoverbloom pollen flowers in the north of Ahnimar to upgrade a seed.
